Hedge Reductions.
Hedge reduction is the process of lowering the height of an existing hedge that has gotten too high for whatever reason.
Depending on the amount of reduction this can lead to a lot more green waste and removal costs.
Also note that when so much is taken of the top and even sides of a hedge, often there is not much green left, and can be cut back leaving bare sticks and branches if the type of hedge allows it.
On the right type of hedge this will fully recover and grow back to its natural lush green state.
Sometimes Reductions require specialist chainsaw and long reach pole saw equipment, along with heavy duty ratchet loppers and safety gear.

Understanding the Price of Tall Hedge Maintenance.
Tall hedges present a unique challenge, one that regular gardeners can tackle up to a certain height.
However, beyond a certain threshold it becomes necessary, to utilise the specialists services of arborists or tree surgeons.
These specialists possess the required expertise and equipment required to manage exceptionally tall hedges safely.
Natures Seasonal Hedge Maintenance.
Protecting Wildlife Bird Nesting Season, when considering pruning and trimming hedges,
there are a few things to keep in mind and be aware of.
There are some very important things to know.
It is a legal obligation not to cut, prune, or trim hedges and trees in springtime
when birds are getting ready to nest.
You are not even allowed to carry out work on hedges even while birds have not yet started nesting,
but are in the process of gathering nesting materials.
Also, this is the case for current nesting birds with eggs, and young birds are present within the hedges and trees. So, you can work on them before and after the bird nesting season.
As a nature lover myself, this is one of the inspections I carry out at this time of year as part of my visits.
Although some would just go and do the work anyway to get the job!
I prefer to let the birds and nature take its course and work around them as my personal ethics dictates.
Personal Guidance and recommendations.
Before any trimming is carried out, I will inspect the hedge to determine its density and health, some types of hedges can be cut right back safely leaving a lush green finish and reduced a good deal.
others can be trimmed only so much before it either gets to the stock, where the natural thicker trunks and branches are where hedge trimmers cannot cut.
Also the thickness that can be safely cut back before we reach the brown twigs and branches of the hedge that have no green growth at all.
I can reveal all these potential problems for your type of hedge, and advice on what you can expect the finished job to look like before any work is commenced.

Some types of hedges will become bare and ugly with no green at all if cut back too far!
In the above photo on the left you can see how much was cut off the top by the off cut just above the ladders, and the alread trimmed far left corner of the hedge.
This hedge the carries on another full length at the same height as seen if looking from the top of the ladder forwards and to the left hand side of the photo.
The height of the overgrown hedge was reduced about 18 inches!
The total width of the hedge on the top, is as wide as the total height of the extended hedge cutter!
The ladders to the blue top is 9 feet tall, and the hedge cutter blade is another two feet long, making the width of the hedge at the top 11 feet wide.
Which makes the total hieght of this laurel hedge 11 feet high.
Also something to note, is how high the extended hedge cutters can reach while standing on the ground, with attachments like pole saws, which is a small long reach chainsaw used for trimming branches and limbs off trees.
Counting the rungs on this ladder to the 7th rung would be approximately
the Hight of a 6 foot tall person, to give you an idea how tall this hedge is.
